The Football Team

The football team played a couple of league games on Tuesday.

The boys played out a tight game with a strong Towerview Primary team, keeping a clean sheet in a close fought 0-0 draw.

They then played Clandeboye Primary, losing narrowly 1-0.

In a final friendly game against Crawfordsburn the boys played some brilliant football, coming out with a 1-0 win.

Well done boys!

P1 R1 Term 2a- 2020. Arctic Adventures

We have had a great start to 2020 in P1! We have enjoyed learning about Winter at home, and in Polar lands. Role playing arctic animals is one of our favourite things to do during play, and one day we made hot chocolate to hep us keep all warm in the cold months! The P5s come down to read with us once a week now, so we look forward to seeing our ‘Reading Buddies’ each Tuesday, and like to say hello to them if we pass them in the corridor too! Meanwhile we are getting better and better with our letters and numbers… we’ve started to build our own words now, and are beginning to add numbers together.

Girls Hockey Tournament

The girls hockey team took part in a friendly tournament at Strandtown Primary on Thursday. The two teams put in a number of great performances and really enjoyed themselves. Both teams had a taste of what it was like to play on grass which was a first for everyone! We played matches against Strandtown, Gilnahirk and Penrhyn. The A team put in some great performances, winning a couple of games and the B team fought hard despite not having a goalie. A special mention to Beth Harper for having a go in goal and making a couple of great saves! Well done to both teams!

P4 V E Day Celebrations!

Last week P4 finished off their WW2 topic with their V E Day celebrations! We had a great day, skipping, playing old games, singing some of the songs from that time and even using enjoying some rationed chocolate and sweets! Take a look at some of our great evacuee outfits. We also enjoyed a visit from Gillian Spence, Mrs McKeown’s granny who lived just outside London during the war. She shared her memories of rationing, the air raid shelters and being evacuated.

'Pack Up Your Troubles' P4 WW2 Trip to Castle Ward

P4 had a great day on Wednesday on their trip to Castle Ward. They went back in time to May 1945 the day after the war was over and met different characters including Agnes the land girl, Polly the Cook and Sadie the Nursery maid. They learnt about life for Margaret and John the evacuees who were evacuated to Castle Ward during the war. They planted beans as part of the ‘Dig for Victory’ campaign, played with old toys in the nursery, packed the evacuee’s suitcase and came across some usual war time recipes in the kitchen including vinegar cake and carrot cookies! It was a fantastic day out and we would like to say a big thank you to all the parent volunteers who came along! ~
