P5 Pumpkin Picking!

P5 went to Helen’s Bay this week to harvest pumpkins that they planted back in June in P4. We were amazed at how well they had grown and couldn’t believe the size of them! Room 7 were very lucky with the weather but unfortunately Room 8 had the opposite! Nevertheless, both classes had great fun on the farm. Thanks to Helen’s Bay Organic Farm for having us!

P5 Rm 5 Egyptian Craft!

We have really enjoyed our Ancient Egypt topic this term. As part of this topic we created our own ‘Shaduf’ which the Egyptians used as an irrigation tool to lift water from the River Nile. We also designed our own ‘Sarcophagus’ using chalk that were made for Pharoahs thousands of years ago.

Engines off Prevent the Cough

P5 have been taking part in a borough initiative learning about air pollution and in particular cars idling outside school grounds. Room 8 completed a survey to investigate how many cars sit with their engines idling. We all created posters for the initiative and entered them for the local competition.

P6 Adverts

P6 took on the role as advertisers and created some eye-catching advertisements that included catchy slogans and persuasive language to convince their target audience to buy the product. Well done P6!

Our Assembly - P5 Room 14

Our assembly yesterday was all about kindness. We learned about a man called Danny Wallace who started a global movement, encouraging people to carry out random acts of kindness. We read the story of The Good Samaritan and discussed that we should be kind to everyone, not just people we know. As a class, we are going to try to perform small acts of kindness each day - at home and in school.

Holywood PS v Sullivan Prep

Sixteen P6/P7 girls and boys went to Sullivan Upper today to play some friendly hockey matches against Sullivan Prep. The sun was shining and fun was had by all! The girls team won 2 and drew 1 game whilst the boys narrowly lost 2 and drew 1. This was great prep for the tournaments we are heading to next week. Thanks to Sullivan Prep for inviting us to play and for the half time oranges and full time Kit Kats!

Girls Hockey Tournament

The girls hockey team took part in a friendly tournament at Strandtown Primary on Thursday. The two teams put in a number of great performances and really enjoyed themselves. Both teams had a taste of what it was like to play on grass which was a first for everyone! We played matches against Strandtown, Gilnahirk and Penrhyn. The A team put in some great performances, winning a couple of games and the B team fought hard despite not having a goalie. A special mention to Beth Harper for having a go in goal and making a couple of great saves! Well done to both teams!
