P4 Sports Week

Well that is a wrap on P4 Sport’s Week! Thank you to all the folks at home who braved the rain to cheer on our P4s today. We have had a great week with lots of team and individual events, well done P4! Here are some photos to give you a taster of our week.

North Down Hockey Blitz

The school hockey teams had a great time at Regent House last week, taking part in the qualifiers for the Pearson/McCloy Cup competitions.

The boys played on Thursday and were in a tough group with Carrickmannon, Towerview and Dundonald. They played well; drawing two matches and losing a third. Unfortunately they did not progress out of the group but they did win their consolation game against Crawfordsburn with Caleb scoring the only goal of the match!

The girls played on Friday and were up against Towerview, Academy and Comber. They started well with a 2-0 victory over Towerview, with our hockey captain Selena scoring both goals. The second match was a tough game but unfortunately a strong Acadmey side had too much and the girls lost 2-0. The final group game was against Comber, with the girls rallying following their previous game to run out 4-1 winners - the goals coming from Selena (x2) and Eva (x2)!

The girls finished second in their group which got them through to the quarter finals were they played Rathmore. This was a very close game but unfortunately for Holywood, Rathmore scored with almost the last hit of the match.

Well done to all the pupils involved!

(A special mention to Betty who volunteered to play goalkeeper for the girls despite never playing in nets before!)

P4 Rugby Blitz

Children from P4 had a fantastic time at the mini rugby blitz. They developed their fundamental skills and enjoyed playing against local schools. Thank you again to Holywood RFC for organising the event and to Mr Hughes (Nathan’s Dad) for volunteering to help out and referee some of the matches.

Hockey Blitz

Ten P7 pupils enjoyed a morning playing hockey at the Ards and North Down Borough Council Hockey Blitz.

The team performed so well and won five out of the six matches they played. Each player worked incredibly hard, and showed great sportsmanship throughout the blitz. They were all absolutely delighted with their well-deserved medals too!

A huge thank you to all the parents and grandparents who helped with lifts and came along to support the team, it was much appreciated!

Holywood PS v Sullivan Prep

Sixteen P6/P7 girls and boys went to Sullivan Upper today to play some friendly hockey matches against Sullivan Prep. The sun was shining and fun was had by all! The girls team won 2 and drew 1 game whilst the boys narrowly lost 2 and drew 1. This was great prep for the tournaments we are heading to next week. Thanks to Sullivan Prep for inviting us to play and for the half time oranges and full time Kit Kats!

The Football Team

The football team played a couple of league games on Tuesday.

The boys played out a tight game with a strong Towerview Primary team, keeping a clean sheet in a close fought 0-0 draw.

They then played Clandeboye Primary, losing narrowly 1-0.

In a final friendly game against Crawfordsburn the boys played some brilliant football, coming out with a 1-0 win.

Well done boys!

Girls Hockey Tournament

The girls hockey team took part in a friendly tournament at Strandtown Primary on Thursday. The two teams put in a number of great performances and really enjoyed themselves. Both teams had a taste of what it was like to play on grass which was a first for everyone! We played matches against Strandtown, Gilnahirk and Penrhyn. The A team put in some great performances, winning a couple of games and the B team fought hard despite not having a goalie. A special mention to Beth Harper for having a go in goal and making a couple of great saves! Well done to both teams!
