Football glory at Ashfield once again!

Holywood Footballers headed to the annual Ashfield Football Tournament on Friday in what is always a brilliantly run event and a highlight on the sporting calendar. Holywood fielded 2 teams that competed alongside 20+ schools across the Belfast area in what was a beautiful day to be playing the beautiful game!

Holywood As were in Group A alongside teams from Elmgrove. Nettlefield, Strandtown, Braniel, Knockbreda and an Ashfield select side . The A team shone throughout the group stages and finished the Group in 1st place recording 4 Wins and 2 Draws without conceding a single goal.

Holywood Bs were in Group D alongside teams from Strandtown , Orangefield, Victoria Park, Gilnahirk, Brooklands and Dundonald. The B team found themselves in a very tough group and performed heroically but were unfortunately unable to qualify for the knockout stages after some hard fought matches and brilliant teamwork.

Moving into the knockout stages Holywood A faced up against Cregagh in what was a tense game. Holywood edged the game winning 1-0 with a super team goal finished off by Zach progressing the team to the final of the main event.

The Cup Final and overall winners of the competition was to be decided between Holywood and Dundonald. Neither team gave an inch in a tightly contested match that ended as a stale mate to go to a sudden death penalty shootout. After the 4th round of spot kicks with great finishes by Luca, James, Zach and Danny, Jake in nets pulled off the winning save!

An amazing achievement from Holywood PS to finish as overall tournament champions and back to back winners of the event for the 2nd year in a row! A massive well done again to all involved who did themselves and their school proud. A big thank you to all the parent helpers who offered their assistance and provided lifts and even came along to support.

A Team: Rory, Danny, Luca, Zach, Jack, James, Carson, Eva and Jake (C)

Hampered with injuries the team succumbed to defeats to league winners Ballymagee, league runners up Kilmaine and St Comgall’s in what were all very tightly contested matches.

Winning House Crest Design

The P5-P7 classes took part in another competition to earn not only points for their House but also the accolade of designing their own House Crest to be displayed in school. Pupils had to work independently to get creative and design their own House Crest that they felt best represented their House and its values that they themselves could choose.

Each Crest had to incorporate their Houses Colours and also some values they believe their House should uphold. (e.g. kindness, sportsmanship, loyalty, trust etc). Once all the designs were completed the House and Sports Captains had to select the top 10 crest designs from their represented Houses which they felt were the best which proved to be a very difficult decision as lots of the entries were of a very high standard! The House and Sports Captains worked diligently together as a team to fairly rank and order all the entries for their House which they brought to Mr Atcheson who selected a winner from each House to be displayed on the House Competitions board. A prize was also given to the best House Crest Design overall and they were also awarded 80 House Points!

Well done to all involved in what was a very difficult competition to judge.

The OVERALL WINNER goes to CHARLEY in P6 from the BLUE HOUSE with her amazing artistic design! Well done!

The House Competition is well and truly heating up with Sports Week, the House Sports competitions and many other fun events already underway in Term 3!

HPS are Feeling Festive

The whole of HPS had a fun filled start to December dressed in our festive clothing to complete the Daily Mile . The children across P1-P7 wore all things bright and beautiful to bring some seasonal festive cheer while completing 12 laps of the main playground for our Santa Run.

The Daily Mile is a simple and free initiative which gets children out of the classroom for 15 minutes every day, to walk, run, jog or wheel at your own pace. Whilst making them fitter, healthier and able to concentrate in the classroom, it has huge social and emotional benefits too.

HPS were among many schools across Northern Ireland, to get moving on the same day, to celebrate the positive benefits that daily activity can have on our mental health.

Check out some of the festive fun in the photos below:

P3 Rugby Blitz

P3 had great fun today when they met at Spafield playing fields to play some tag rugby alongside both Glencraig IPS and St Patricks. Both P3 classes have enjoyed the opportunity to develop their rugby skills during the coaching they have received with Holywood Rugby Club over the last number of weeks in their PE time.

At the event they got to take part in lots of small sided games and enjoyed the sunshine and mud! We mixed with lots of new and familiar faces - all while getting active and playing sport. A big thank you to all the parent helpers for their support and to Holywood RFC for having us down.

Check out the action in the photos below!
