Today eight of the girls hockey club travelled to Regent House and took part in the BDONI hockey festival - North Down region. 12 teams took part altogether in two groups of 6.
In our group games we were triumphant against Grange Park, Killinchy PS, Londonderry and Rathmore and we drew against Sullivan Prep. This meant we topped the group and progressed through to the semi finals to face Ballyholme. After a hard fought match, we came out on top and were headed for the final! With that came tough opponents - Abbey Primary. The score remained all square after full time which meant extra time, golden goal. After 5 minutes still nothing could separate the sides so it was time for penalties! After 3 penalties each, the scores were still equal! Abbey Primary came out on top after sudden death, declaring them winners and us runners up. Well done Abbey Primary!
What a fantastic effort from all our girls finishing 2nd out of 12 and progressing through to the McCloy Cup being played at Stormont at the end of the month. A special mention to our goalie, Isla who was amazing all day and held her nerve during the penalties. Also to Alana who was the winner of the Chamrox hockey grip - well done! Thanks to the parents who helped with lifts and supported us throughout the day. And to all the girls who took part - such a great achievement from the whole team.
